Why Francis Greenway?

At Francis Greenway High School (FGHS) we understand that choosing a high school for your child is a critical and potentially difficult task, which is why we've tried to make it easy for you to see what sets our school apart.

At our school we take pride in ensuring that each and every student is inspired to follow their passion, realise their potential and become successful in whatever career they choose to pursue. We cater to all students and focus on developing their skills so that they can build a brighter future for themselves in a safe and supportive environment.

We challenge them to excel in everything they do and put all our effort into nurturing them so that whether they're gifted and talented, sports focussed or even creative thinkers – they graduate as confident and talented young adults. To find out more about the amazing benefits of FGHS, read below or contact the school directly on (02) 49641282. Stage 4

We fully understand that the move from primary school to high school is a big step for even the most confident of children. It's for this very reason that we make the transition process as smooth, happy and exciting as possible. We enjoy strong partnerships with our local primary schools and carry out a focused program of support including, Mini Lessons, CAPA Showcase, Orientation Day and Jump Start, Enrichment Program (E Program) and Junior Aboriginal Education Consultative Group (JAECG).

Students in Year 8 undertake an elective of their choice which may include a technology, sporting or creative based subject. This choice supports student engagement and serves as a taste of Stage 5 electives.

In Stage 4, our focus is very much around the preparation for the rigour of Stages 5 and 6 with teachers meeting each fortnight to discuss and plan the curriculum for the classes. This is called Teaming as it involves a team approach to teaching the curriculum. This team works with the primary schools to track each student's literacy across Learning progressions. This means the learning for each student is individualised. For those students who have particular talents, whether it be academic, sporting or creative there are opportunities available to extend them and there is a wide range of support available for those students experiencing difficulty.

Stage 5

During term 1 for Year 9 there is a strong focus on preparing students to undertake the NAPLAN assessment with practise questions and activities undertaken in class. Year 9 and 10 choose two electives in addition to their core curriculum. This adds a level of interest and engagement for students. Year 10 begin preparing for the world of work with Career Expos and Work Experience. Following this experience, students choose the subjects they wish to study in the senior years. They are also involved in workshops including Elevate to prepare them for the HSC. Stage 5 students have the opportunity to participate in a Snow Trip excursion and are developing leadership skills through the nominations for Student Leaders.

Stage 6

The key focus in Stage 6 is the successful completion of the HSC and/or the movement into the workforce or tertiary education. Students are able to choose a pathway that best suits them. This may be the acquisition of an ATAR to enter university or a Vocational Pathway. All senior students are strongly supported in their studies with a designated HSC Hub in the library together with expert staff support. Students are expected to use their study periods to complete work and access this teacher as needed. The Year 11 cohort undertake the Reaching Your Potential program during sport time. They are in small groups with a mentor who works through a series of workshops on study techniques, time management and self-care.
